Sermon Topics

Recap from Lesson 1:

“Why is God so Indifferent?”
We saw the “Prophet’s Concern.” (Vs. 2-3)
We looked at the “Basic Cause.” (Vs. 4)
Finally, we looked at the “Lord’s Counsel.” (Vs. 5-11)

  1. “How Could God Be So Inconsistent?” (Vs. 12-13)
    • The Holiness of God (Vs. 12-13)
      • “Men of faith are always the men who have to confront problems.”
      • There is a difference between doubt and unbelief.
      • The doubter questions God and may even debate with God, but the doubter does not abandon God.
      • But unbelief is rebellion against God, a refusal to accept what He says and does.
      • Unbelief is an act of the will, while doubt is born out of a troubled mind and a broken heart. (Habakkuk 1:12; Romans 1:18; Habakkuk 1:13)
      • To avoid tough questions, or to settle for half-truths, and superficial pat answers is to remain immature; but to face questions honestly and talk them through with the Lord is to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Christ. (2 Peter 3:18)
    • The Helplessness of the People (Vs. 14-15) (Jeremiah 6:14; Jeremiah 8:11)
    • The Haughtiness of the Enemy (Vs. 16-17) (Habakkuk 1:11; Habakkuk 2:4; Habakkuk 2:1; Romans 11:33-36)
