James 1: 2-13

Sermon Topics

– God is a strange teacher; He gives the test first, then He gives the lesson.
– Without patience and perseverance you will not have strength, victory, or prosperity.
– How humiliating it is that we never reach the goal because we quit too soon.
– Remember, we receive the Test from God, and the Temptation from the Devil.
– Satan will tempt you and cause you to STUMBLE, while God will test you and cause you to STAND.
– The faith that cannot be tested cannot be trusted.

  1. Enjoyment – Rejoice in the Lord (James 1:2)
    • If God gives a test and you overcome; overcoming Christians are Joyful Christians.
  2. Enlargement – We Mature Through Trials (James 1:4)
  3. Enlightenment – We Gain Wisdom (James 1:4-8)
    • It is a mark of maturity when we stop asking “Why?” and start remembering “Who!”
    • Knowledge is learned from looking around; Wisdom is learned from looking up! Knowledge comes by studying while Wisdom comes by praying.
  4. Enthronement – God Will Give You the Crown of Life (James 1:12)
    • You will never learn to be over until you learn to be under and endure.
    • If you do not bear the cross, you cannot wear the crown.
  5. Enrichment – God Provides All Our Needs (James 1:4)
    • If you want to know how rich you are, add up everything you have that money cannot buy and that debt cannot take away.
    • In order to be taught, you must be enrolled… and I am not talking about church membership.
