Micah 1:6-16

1. Lamentation: The Cities Shall Be Ruined (1:6-16)
A. The Ruin of Samaria (Vss. 6-9)
B. The Ruin of Judah (Vss. 9-16)
– The problem with Samaria was that she was toxic; her infection had spread to Judah.
– “Gath” is similar to the Hebrew word for “Tell.” Thus he wrote, “Tell it not in Gath.”
– Beth Oprhah means “House of Dust.” Thus he wrote, “Roll in the dust.”
– The people of Shaphir, known as “Pleasant and Beautiful.”
– The cities of Zaana (“Come out”) would not be able to come out because of danger.
– Beth Ezel means “House of Taking away,” then it would be taken away.
– Maroth is related to “Mara/Myrrh” and mean “Bitterness,” and the city would experience bitter calamity.
– Moresheth, which sounds like a Hebrew word meaning “Betrothed;” and brides were given farewell gifts.
– Aczib means “Deception,” the connection is obvious; and Mareshah sounds like the word for “Conqueror.”
