Matthew 5:5
Sermon Topics
Introduction:
He called for a Broken spirit, a Mourning heart, and now Meekness. No Self-Righteousness. No Spiritual Pride.
- Meekness: A Response to a Holy God
- Broken in Spirit focuses on my sinfulness. Meekness focuses on God’s holiness. (Ephesians 4:12; Titus 3:2; Colossians 3:12)
- What Does it Really Mean to be Meek? (2 Corinthians 10:2; Matthew 21:5) (Proverbs 25:28; 16:23)
- Meekness is the opposite of Violence and Vengeance. (Hebrews 10:34)
- The Meek person has died to self. He never worries about his own injuries. He bears no grudges.
- How Does Meekness Manifest Itself? (Genesis 13:8-9) (Romans 12:10) (Numbers 12:3)
- He had no confidence in himself. He could not defend himself before God, but he would defend God before anybody. That. IS. Meekness!
- What are the Results of Meekness? (Matthew 5:5)
- The only ones who enter His Kingdom are the ones who are broken over their sins, not the ones who think they have no sin. (Isaiah 57:13; 60:21)
- The emphatic pronoun is used here again as in the other Beatitudes, so it says in Greek, “Blessed are the meek, for they ONLY shall inherit the earth.” (Psalm 37:13; 9) (1 Corinthians 3:21-23) (Psalm 149:4)
- The world as I know it now, the world as I see it now, comes alive with meaning for me because it’s mine, in escrow.
- Why is Meekness Necessary? (Psalm 149:4) (Zephaniah 2:3; James 1:21; 1 Peter 3:4)
- How Do I Know if I am Meek?
- Do you always make Peace? Meekness Forgives and Restores. (Ephesians 4:2-3)
- Meekness means to be finished with me for GOOD! (Matthew 5:5)
