Habakkuk 1-3

Sermon Topics

– Peace is not the subtraction of the problems from life; it is the addition of power to meet those problems. (Hab. 2:4)
– We are not to Fold up and Give up, but we are to Look up and Stand up.

How do we give thanks during difficult days?

  1. Faith Does Not Live by Explanations but by Promises (Hab. 1:1-2)
    • What Were the Problems Habakkuk was Facing?
      1. Heaven’s Silence (Hab. 1:2)
      2. Earth’s Sinfulness (Hab. 1:3-4)
      3. Hell’s Success (Hab. 1:5-6)
    • Just because it doesn’t make sense to you does not mean it doesn’t make sense.
  2. Faith Does Not Live by Appearances but by Providence (Hab. 2:1)
    • Habakkuk had a place that he could get ALONE with God… and you need a place as well.
    • When we get in our place alone with God and begin to listen… we notice our “Sighing” stops and our “Seeing” begins.
    • What did Habakkuk see by Faith that God Provides?
      1. The Reliability of the Scripture (Hab. 2:2-3)
      2. The Resources of the Saints (Hab. 2:4)
      3. The Retribution of the Sinner (Hab. 2:5-6)
        • The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind extremely fine.
          1. Warnings Against Material Corruption (Hab. 2:6)
          2. Warnings Against Moral Corruption (Hab. 2:12,15)
          3. Warnings Against Spiritual Corruption (Hab. 2:19)
      4. The Reign of the Savior (Hab. 2:14,20)
    • God is in control; there is NO panic in Heaven.
  3. Faith Does Not Live by Circumstances but by Praise (Hab. 3:1-3)
    • What do YOU do in Dark Days?
      1. Remember God’s Glory
      2. Rejoice in God’s Goodness (Hab. 3:17-18)
        • If your joy is rooted in anything that can be touched or tampered with, you have an unstable joy!
      3. Rely on God’s Grace (Hab. 3:19)

We may never know that God is enough until we know that God is all we have.
“The just shall live by faith!” – Without faith you have nothing to hold onto!
